How to Structure Your Week as a Writing Dad (Without Burning Out)

When you’re a dad with a job, kids, and a side hustle dream, the question isn’t:

“Do I have time to write?”

The real question is:

“How do I make it repeatable without falling apart?”

Blogging isn’t just about hitting publish.
It’s about building a sustainable rhythm around your real life.

Here’s how I structure my writing week so I can publish 5-10 blog posts a week, stay present at home, and not burn out by Friday night.

My Weekly Writing Structure

Monday → SEO-Focused Blog Post

Tuesday → Mindset or Story Post

Wednesday → System or How-To Post

Thursday → Affiliate or Resource-Style Post

Friday → Light Recap or Reflection Post

  • 15-30 minutes max
  • Could even be an email repurposed into a blog

My Weekend System

Saturday or Sunday:

  • 2-3 hour deep work block
  • Batch ideas, outlines, or write 1-2 full days ahead
  • I also review metrics, notes, and what I want to improve

I treat weekends as a reset, not a scramble to catch up.
If I fall behind during the week, I just start fresh, not stressed.

Bonus: How I Stay Organized

  • Notion Dashboard: All blog ideas, content calendar, and writing queue
  • Google Calendar: Scheduled writing windows
  • Whiteboard in my office: Tracks posts published each week (visible motivation)
  • Phone on Do Not Disturb: During writing sprints

My Rules for Writing as a Dad

  • Protect short windows. I rarely write more than 60 minutes at a time.
  • Plan before writing. Knowing what I’m writing saves 15–20 minutes per session.
  • Keep a backup list. I always have a list of “easy” posts I can knock out if energy is low.
  • Miss a day? Reset. Never try to “make up” missed writing time. Just start fresh.
